"Last minute" meeting around the UK?

Recommended Posts

Ooops.

Debenhams have a sale starting tomorrow (whoopy-do  ).

Selfridges have a sale starting tomorrow.

I'll be visiting London tomorrow night, rain, or not. I won't be buying, but I will be taking exercise in heels, looking around to see what's on offer. B)

Well, I got my evening out. Full write up tomorrow, as it's 1am here.

Summary:

Pleasant walk, spoiled (again) by some middle aged wrinkly who should know better (at her age).

Bitter? Moi? :D

So travelled down to London, specifically the West End.

I'd wanted to return some jeans to Marks and Spencer, and see if they had my size [larger than the size I bought] in the style I liked. Although the Oxford Street store is something of a flagship store, it didn't have the style I was looking for.

Next to Zara opposite Debenhams. Then House of Fraser. Their Biba jeans weren't in the sale, and they didn't have my size either. Had a quick look around the lower ground floor, but they only had summer shoes/sandals. Then into Debenhams, same thing. Not a great time for finding boots....

Shops are closing, and it's time to eat. We go to a restaurant, one we've been to many times before. The place is super busy. For the first time, we eat downstairs. The place is heaving, even though it's after nine.

We eat. Service is slow, but tables are getting empty.

I'm sitting in a corner. My boots are on show. There's a group of three women about 10 ft away to one side. One of the girls is really pretty, in a 'magazine model' sense of pretty. [Good features, a little hard, maybe boyish even.] I think she's with her mother. Another hard looking woman. Terrible skin, obviously spent a lot of time in the Sun. She has classic lines, a bit germanic in look, and could easily pass for a man. The third is a coloured girl. Wearing high heels, and very girlie, unlike the other two.

The older woman and black girl have their back to me. The pretty girl is practically facing me, but like the other two, fairly preoccupied with eating. (And drinking). I'm surprised she doesn't seem to spend any time looking at my footwear, or at least isn't interested. Looking back on the situation later, I recall at no time during the evening, did any of them laugh, or even smile. I do remember the black girl asking for something that wasn't on the menu (this is something often perceived to be a trait of media wannabe's). Her accent was English, but the pretty girl had an American accent.

It's time to go. We get the bill, and I decide with a 45 minute journey home that starts with a 10 minute walk in the cold, I'd better use the loo before travelling.

I leave the table, and go to the loo. When I walk back out of the corridor that leads to the loos, my escort is already standing by our table (been waiting for me), and I watch her walk toward me. I'm standing next to the stairs, ready to leave. I notice the pretty girl is now looking at my feet. I'm a bit surprised by this. you can't see my heels, and I've just walked one step into the dining area. After 3 seconds of looking, she turns to her mother (and girlfriend) and says something that I guess is about my footwear. This is confirmed, because the older lady, then looks too. Both stare, though neither has more than a second left before I turn to walk up the stairs. At this time, I'm slightly amused, that two of the three (at least) have broken their rather humourless conversation to make time to notice me and my footwear.

A short lived pleasure, as the old bird suddenly cackles a short laugh, I suppose from a remark made by her daughter.

At the top of the stairs, I'm confused, and pretty much ready to spit blood. I'm frustrated that I wouldn't return to give them 'a piece of my mind', and deflated these people have such poor life experiences, they would humour in someone's dress sense. Without doubt, other dandy's (Beau Brummel) would have suffered scorn in the same way. Thankfully, I'm old enough to have thick skin. I doubt I would have coped quite so well in my younger, more sensitive days ..... ;):D

It took me some considerable time to calm down. I have a reasonable expectation of ignorance/rudeness from younger people (with less experience of the diversity the world has to offer), but was shocked that people embracing a cosmopolitan 'look', failed so miserably (literally) to live up to what I understand to be the cosmopolitan spirit.

My only solace in this rather unfortunate episode is a quote from Oscar Wilde: "The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about." If I'm special enough to catch the attention of two attractive girls and one dried up prune, then good for me. ;):P:D .

What type of footwear were u using?

>> These << and well hidden under long jeans.

The pointed toe is always on show, but the heel seldom is.

If I had been wearing 5" stiletto's and a skirt, I might expect people to stop and stare, but the old bird was just being mean.

They are a nice pair of boots :)

But I guess we have to accept that sooner or later someone will look, laugh or comment.

I will still my boots nomather what happend...I think.. :)

I agree. I reserve the right to be "miffed" about it though. ;):D

In a weeks time, it'll be a distant, if not forgotten memory. I wasn't prepared for it, and maybe that is what could be upsetting me, being caught off-guard.

I've eaten at that restaurant many times, and have always worn heels. I've [at least] twice eaten outside in the open air with folk (tourists and locals alike) walking past all evening, and not had a bad experience.

While sitting outside early evening, either last summer or two summers ago, I took a second photo of a girl sitting slightly behind me who was looking at my heels. She's wearing sunglasses, but her head seems to be angled directly at my feet. I had taken the first photo of her walking past me because of her footwear. The second photograph was also of her shoes, but when looking at the photo in detail, I could see where she was looking more accurately. She obviously had an interest in shoes and heels.... Possibly why she noticed my heels. [same as in the link, if I remember.] Nobody seemed to be at all bothered, including the girl in the heels, nor the girl who joined her later. Which is usually the case.

I might notice more folk staring for a second longer than they might otherwise, when I wear a thinner/higher heel. But overall, I don't get grief, and I can only remember one previous occasion where laughter followed my footwear being noticed. In that instance, the delay was so long it might well have been a coincidence anyway.

Thanks for the kind remark about the boots. B) They are my regular, 'go everywhere' boot.

Are they 4" heels?

Yes. I will not wear a lower heel, unless forced to wear mens shoes. US10/UK7½/EU41

'My going out' boots vary from 4 inches to almost 5inches. I've been out a couple of times in the higher ones, but there's no disguising the hip movement necessary to stride while wearing them.

In my point of view they look masculine....

Yessssss, And is why Mrs Freddy doesn't mind me wearing them while we are out together. :)

Makes the guffaw of laughter, even more inappropriate. But I make no mistake, both daughter and mother [they looked identical but for 25/30 year age difference] were staring at my feet, immediately before the cackle from the older woman.

Had planned to have a walk around the West End this evening. Was summer Solstice yesterday, the days are about as long as they get.

Currently it's raining, with a 15-25mph cool (gusting) wind keeping temperatures around 12/15 degrees C.

If the trees weren't full of green foliage, I'd think it was a day in late Autumn. :(

Might have to stay home. Again.

Had to stay home.

Wind blew a tree down on Friday pm on the green at the bottom of our garden, and a second was so dangerously close to falling, it had to be cut down. We now have a much better view of the light industrial units, the other side of the green. :(

Heavy rain due on Saturday evening [that arrived]. This is rain that has flooded several parts of central England.

Sunday we are going to a family dinner, where Mrs Freddy hopes to collect two hand-reared 6/7 week old kittens, and bring them home. I've advised that I struggle to get motivated to repair a house already, without having two little balls of entertainment to distract me. I think I may lose this one ..... :D

Photo's of trees to follow. Possibly photo's of new 'family' members too.

I am thinking of getting a motorbike again. [Weather is not conducive to motorcycling this summer though.] Priced up a couple last year, but no purchase. No danger of getting one this year ..... Not only raining most days, but even today, 25mph winds .....

My worry about motorcycling in heels, would be the scuffing caused by gear changes? That an explaining to doctors/nurses, why I was wearing heels. [Assuming I survived an accident.]

Gear and brake pedals distance from the peg`s does not match heeled footwear.

Also my pegs are just spiked metals so they will damage the area between the heels and sole.

Maybe I should reconsider the bike.. :P

Cheaper to replace the pegs? :D

Haven't tried heels on my Kawasaki for the same reasons Freddy already stated, explaining if things go wrong..

Not a Ninja 250R by any chance? ;)

No new family members .... Crunch day is next weekend I found out yesterday ....

Photo's .....

Tree blown over. Luckily, no-one was injured.

2nd tree cut down, as it was in danger of falling onto a pathway.

Council has been around this morning to start removing debris.

Apparently, one that covered the bottom part of our garden blew over 3 years ago. :(

Looks like I may visiting London, at least once this week.

Mrs Freddy is out with the girls on Saturday night, (celebrating a birthday), and feels we should have some time away from the building site too. ;) She reminded me Friday is late shopping at several stores there. I've no money to spend, but browsing in heels would be pleasant. Still raining most days, though temperatures have risen slightly.

If I don't go there Friday, I might have a wander up there Saturday anyway. ;)

Getting a bit 'stir crazy' looking out of windows at the rain pouring down .....

P.S.

One bit of news that was a relief to me (though not so good for Mrs Freddy), we are not getting two kittens after all. Someone who went to collect one of the litter, instantly fell in love with one of the pair coming here, so they took two away instead of one. The other kitten from the pair, is staying put. So cute the current carer can't bear to lose it. ;)

Well, I goofed off Friday.

Spent all day answering emails, (business related) and didn't get the work tools out until later. Couldn't justify a play evening having sat on my backside all day.

Seems I've spent so much time on my knees over the last couple of days, and done little else, my right knee has swollen for some reason? I vaguely remember having this once before (maybe on an elbow) and movement helped it dissipate.

Will be doing some walking tomorrow then, one way or the other!

Or maybe I won't.....

The painting schedule got the better of me today too. [Must paint faster then?]

There is a Louboutin Exhibition on at the Design Museum at the moment, with a week left to run. I nearly went for the evening session, which ended at 9.45pm tonight. When looking to buy tickets on-line, indications were, that last entry was at 5.15pm. I now think this was a remark relating to the afternoon session that ended at 5.45pm, but buying a ticket meant agreeing to this condition, which I couldn't. The exhibition is open on Sunday too ..... Who knows.

You Tube trailers.

Almost didn't make it out again today. Finally got out of the house at 5,15pm. Pictures and full report, hopefully later today (Monday.) If not, Tuesday am. ;)

Not having much luck with camera's still. Now my compact, carry everywhere camera has gone belly up.
