The first pair of Harley Davidson cowboy style boots (of two pairs) bought some 3 years ago (or was it 4), are about to meet the great Cobbler in the Sky. I've always liked them because they have a pointed toe, and I really, REALLY, like pointed toe styles. Mrs Freddy likes them (I should say prefers them), because they are not blatantly 'girlie' shoes. In fact I've worn them a number of times in front of people I know, and not been challenged to their pedigree. I've anticipated their demise, and have thought I should find a second style of 'play' shoes that I could wear even more often perhaps? So far I've picked up two styles at reasonable money that ought to fit the bill, but they haven't entirely convinced me...... TopShop size UK9 heeled shoe River Island boot Over the last couple of days, I've also ordered another two pairs I know to fit. The reason for buying online, the Brands say they don't allow full refunds in the shop, only exchanges. Online purchases had a mandatory 7 day cooling off/cancellation period, plus free each way carriage. The 'biter' of the deal, would be shop stock all looked badly treated. I'm hoping the online stock will look as new as it should. Dune suede black suede heeled shoe Unusually, a Dune UK8 fits. Bertie rubber sole and heel, high heeled shoe/boot The only 'failed' attempt, is another Dune high heeled leather ankle boot. Their size UK8/EU41 actually coming up like every other sellers UK7. [As does most TopShop styles.] It was a bit expensive for my usual budget, but had the prospect to be a very wearable style. The search continues. Reason for edit: To add links.

"Last minute" meeting around the UK?
FastFreddy2 replied to FastFreddy2's topic in Heelbucks chit chat Cafe
I hadn't realised at the time ........ There were two styles of boots in the Selfridges sale that took my eye. A tall boot I struggled to get on, and struggled even more to get off .... In front of an audience of 3 shoppers and sometimes 3 staff - sometimes 4.... Obviously the maker never expected a man sized ankle to be pushed along the length of the narrow shaft of the boot. The second style, was a high suede [pixie] ankle boot that I not only tried on my foot, but had a little walk about whilst wearing. I vaguely remember the style being circa £300 even at the sale price, so they were never going to be bought as they were suede. [Looked good but too easy to ruin.] And not having my glasses on meant I didn't fully appreciate who the boot designer was. Until I spotted >> these << on line the other day. Had I realised, I might have been tempted to try both shoes. It wasn't as if the the store staff weren't aware I was there .... At House of Fraser, I tried on the Nine West Amrit boot again, in a UK7. Good fit, but my heel is a little loose in the boot? But tempting at £65. It's a very wearable style. Still no purchase though. .... -
"Last minute" meeting around the UK?
FastFreddy2 replied to FastFreddy2's topic in Heelbucks chit chat Cafe
I've been out and about recently, but not announced anything since there is an decreasing incidence of participation. Sadly. Luton Arndale has been done (with some success). Myself and Mrs Freddy went to Oxford Street over the holiday period, and herself spent quite a bit at Mary Portas in House of Fraser. Of the 3 items purchased, I think one LBD was marked at half price, but still came in at £105 ..... Other than the two coffees in Debenhams [£5] I didn't spend anything...... This is probably a good thing for me, as the last shift I worked was lunchtime on the 29th December. The job's now gone and I have to find another way to finance my shoe buying habit. I'll be spending some time this week trawling around shops trying to find another pair of boots in River Island, like the £30 pair I bought in Luton. I never like owning one pair in any style..... For some reason? .... ...... -
Tried both on, and had a walk-around the house. Heels actually 4 1/2". Not so good photo. >> Here << .....

River Island have put some shoes in their Sale, and removed them from their web-site, so no link. But ....... If you can find them, £75 reduced to £30 >> high block heeled ankle boots << They're very high. .....

As luck would have it, work got in the way. Sorry. I know you had to hang about, hope it went well.

Arrived at 9.30am today. Tried one boot, [on the bigger of my two feet] and seems quite promising. If they are okay to walk in, may have to order another pair..... ....

A risk free ending to the day.

While trawling US shoe sites, I stumbled across a company called Heels.com with some styles I liked. One was so attractive (to me) that I went through the purchasing process to find out what the deal was for getting them here. Plain block heel mid calf boot. The deal breaker, was the carriage to the UK for a few cents under $43. It put the invoice over $100, and with local UK taxes of at least 20% to add to the invoice price, it made the shoes a little too much of an indulgence given they are plastic. A little searching around, found me the same boot for a bit less at Endless. Not only do they do carriage at a more reasonable $10, but use a tax deposit so I should have no further taxes to pay on receipt. The total invoice came in at under $60 which is less than £40 delivered tax paid. About half what it would cost from Heels.com? I'm not being critical of Heels.com especially since they carry a vast range of shoe and boot styles. I am touting the services of Endless though, as they seem to provide a 'delivered service' price that makes a purchasing decision much less of a minefield. My order is due middle of next week, and I hope this is the first of many orders using this process. .... ....

Returned to Milton Keynes today, just after lunchtime. Place was rammed. I couldn't get parked anywhere close to the centre, despite loitering or cruising around for the better part of 45 minutes. And today was the sunny day of the week. I expect it to be worse there, when the weather turns [to the heavy rain expected Thursday and Friday.] I'm tempted to say it's getting hard to spend money on shoes ..... Reason for edit: Typo.

Originally my thinking was you'd be 'busy' until 4pm, then could wander toward the West End for a meet. It now looks like the weather is going to be bad [heavy rain] and maybe trying to keep yourself entertained while enduring cold wet weather would be wholly unattractive. Also, if Milton Keynes today is anything to go by, Oxford Street could resemble a rugby scrum tomorrow? I'll ring tomorrow for a natter anyway, to see how you're fixed.

I've always been a bit creative, but also enjoy understanding the technical aspects of how things work, or why they work. These two facets of my personality have made me both curious and sometimes intense. Not always the easiest of bedfellows.

Interesting proposal, is my friend from abroad. Almost immediately wanted to visit, and she and her sister are looking for somewhere outside of London to go for New Years. She asked about coming here. They'd be welcome, but would need hard hats if they stayed. I've told her I'll take her out for her birthday, later in January. Since I haven't seen her for 2 years, I won't know if we'll recognise each other. We've nothing to lose, and much to gain. If I had taken on my mates Bar, these two could have helped me run the place, and been great entertainment for the customers. Maybe it'll come up in conversation. The offer I had hasn't gone yet. You can never have too many friends. I've many I should have kept closer contact with, but mine are mostly ex-girlfriends. I've a couple of fellas I get on with, but none that know about my heel wearing. Few of those I grew up with stayed local. If they didn't leave the country, they left the county. Make the call? .....

Your choice of Designer, is exemplary. Your choice of shoe, VERY on trend. Whatever else you might have, you've certainly got a great sense of style. .....
-
I can meet you later in the day, say 6.30pm almost anywhere in London, though Oxford Street is an obvious choice. If this is an option for you. let me know. I can bring you back [all the way] if you like.

Bit of an update ..... My Colombian friend rang me a couple of weeks ago. Bit embarrassing for her possibly as it's been so long, but it was nice to catch up a little. I think we may be meeting some time in January 2012 for a proper catch up. If I don't wear heels she will chastise me I'm sure, so it'll be a nice night out for me with someone who is indifferent of my shoe style.

Barratts ~ Ankle Height Block-Heeled Boots
FastFreddy2 replied to FastFreddy2's topic in Shoe Critique
Having mentioned Priceless being a daughter store to Barratts, I thought I should visit to have a look see for bargains. Having had a look around on-line, I thought I might need to visit this thread to 'fess up to having made a mistake on the style I thought had increased by 400%...... On looking further, I can see it wasn't an error. Priceless >> boots << at £12 - were £30 (apparently). Barratts >> boots << at £25 - were £50 (it says) though this thread was created when they were just £12 down from £15. The two style are a little different, and the original Barratts post does mention the 'cross-toe-strap' that only the Barratts version includes...... So far from being a bargain, they've actually doubled in price over 10 months? No wonder I don't shop there. Certainly I won't miss them, though I might miss Priceless if that goes too. .... ..... -
Some time ago, I could get around a little in heels that high, though not for long. [An hour max.] These days, I get so little practice, even wearing 5 inch heels is a struggle until my ankles 'warm up' a bit. And with a very minor hip niggle to compound my concerns, I am beginning to realise my body may not allow me to wear heels for many more years.... I intend to go down with the ship if possible, but I doubt the shuffle the aged develop, will be any more elegant with me wearing heels as I shuffle about. Good luck to you sir. I'm a little jealous you can manage them, and a little sad that I can't. But I'm glad there is someone out there that is wearing them, even if it's not me. Keep up the good work for 'the cause'. I hope you get as much pleasure from them, as I might, if I could. Feedback is always welcome. ....

Not yet. Popped into MK on Friday 23rd for 30 minutes en route to Kettering. Tried on the Internationale shoe boots again, to double check they were too small, and although I tried a couple of size 41/(8)'s, they still are too small so I'm guessing this style is really 41/(7). Even worse news as they've been reduced to a very reasonable £10. I intend to go back on Wednesday 28th to give the sales a better look. Not hopeful as it's been a little while since I've seen anything I like enough to buy. The £165 Nine West boots have been reduced further, and are now at £65 which is closer to where I'd expect to see this brand priced. Not sure I like them £65's worth though..... .....

ALDO continue with their on-line Sale, but have repriced various styles. Some less, some more? Some very very good bargains to be had, if you don't already own all the styles you like....
