  1. I once nearly got a reservation screwed up because I was using a (printed!) calendar/diary that actually had the 31st of April in it! Naturally It screwed up the weekdays early in May, when I was travelling, and I was doing my head in trying to figure out what was wrong as I tried to work out the scheduling. And then I saw it. It is hard to defend yourself against that kind of stupidity, you just don't see it coming.
  2. That's a pretty silly screw up. Business partnerships are always fraught. A good rule of thumb - never go into business with a friend, not if you value the friendship
  3. I suspect the scent of moist subtropical earth was mingled in there as well. I remember my first visit to Florida back in '69 and can still recall my boyhood wonder at seeing Spanish moss, little darting lizards, bright tropical flowers and the sense of hot moist air wrapping around you like a blanket when you stepped outside.
  4. PVC looks best when it is downplayed and contrasted with something softer, or at least that's my opinion. This is way overdone. I like it more as a boho accent than raunchy
  5. Indeed, a friend of mine who was born and raised in the hot tropics actually does get out the jumpers when the temperature drops to 25C. And I remember once myself after many months in a searingly hot desert (45-52C each day) dreaming of places in the world where the high for the day would be a chilly 25C...
  6. True - if you increased the temperature by 20C most places it would be unpleasant, but I am taking here about the temperatures being in the 20s, not increased by 20-odd degrees. I get the humidity part - sure - but try Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil, Panama, New Guinea, Borneo, tropical Queensland, Thailand etc. etc. etc. They make anything here seem like a sweet wish. I'm not mocking, it just brings a smile to my face when I hear the weather guy on the TV news talking about a 'scorcher' when the temperature is going to be 26C in London and the southeast!
  7. Having spent much time in the tropics during the course of my life I am continually amazed that temperatures in the 20s can be considered 'hot' by the inhabitants of this sceptered isle...
  8. Doesn't do a thing for me. Now if she'd have had on a pair of those Topshop PVCs...
  9. Demure? She looks about as exclusive as a mailbox
  10. From Prince Charming to his Cinderella
  11. Hail here. Nice otk boot-wearing weather for those of us sitting at desks in chilly rooms! I once had a good friend who played on a prominent women's basketball team - one of the top-rated teams in the US at the time (40 years ago). They were tall. Seriously tall. I remember going out for ice cream once with my friend (she was a striking 6'1" redhead) and some of her team mates (two gorgeous blonds who were both 6'3" and a brunette who was 6'5") I felt a bit like I was a little kid being taken out for ice cream by my big sister and her friends.
  12. I was on the bridge of a ship a few years ago, in Helsinki, and watched the captain neatly parallel park his 300-foot vessel along the wharf, tucking it in between two giant Baltic ferries. It was the neatest piece of parking I have ever witnessed.
  13. I have some otk suede boots with 7cm block heels and they certainly relieve back spasms when I wear them. It's nice.
  14. I don't know about travelling to the US but I fly a lot to other places around the globe and generally it is only those who are wearing boots (of any description) who are required to remove them. In some places, such as Australia, you do not even need to do that. Should you have to remove your sandals, I don't see any problem or need for a spare pair.
  15. I shall look forward to your reviews. It is odd, when you think about it, that heels should be the big taboo that they are, especially since they were originally considered masculine.
  16. A talent show with 200,000,000 viewers is still a talent show - it just has 200,000,000 viewers! Congratulations to Portugal. From what you say they had a long wait
  17. I too shall miss the whole thing. Indeed I was unaware of it until I read this thread. Talent shows just don't do it for me.
  18. Given that Australia and countries from Central Asia now participate it wouldn't be a big deal, I shouldn't think, for Europeans to hop across the twenty miles of water that separates Great Britain from the Continent and compete in a non-EU Britain.
  19. Hastings is indeed enjoying a renaissance. If you go into the Old Town there are some really quite nice coffee shops and bistros and boutique shops, not unlike some of those you find in the lanes in Brighton. Priory Meadow - the shopping mall in the centre of town - is uninspiring, but the seafront is nice, there are more nice eateries around and the new minimalist pier is worth a look when next you are in town.
  20. Sounds like the guy was a bit of a heel (This in joking response to the post about the suspicious chap with the stiletto - not Puffer's trip to Hastings!)
  21. It has indeed been nippy. Wonderful boot weather, though!
  22. A review would be interesting. You seem to have a large enough collection and enough experience to review with authority. I have virtually zero experience, other than with flattish (low/standard) heeled otk boots!
  23. Not a fan of platforms either. I like the cleaner lines without. The Carvelas (above) would be much more challenging for an evening I should think, given the full five inch height.
  24. Well- you got me! I guess that's because I don't actually go shopping for heels but notice, or not, as I stroll past shops... I certainly seldom see five inch stilettos actually being worn, outside of magazine images
