pointyboot
Has been unusually quiet in this forum lately. Did I miss something?
euchrid
It's been dead in the water for years. Nobody posting & nothing much to post about. I'd have quit the site some time ago if there was a 'delete account' option available.

Shyheels
It would be nice if this forum could reactivate. I have made efforts in the past though to resume posting, but got little response. I’m willing to try again if there is any interest by others in doin* the same
Heels
I not had much to say. I have only bought 3 pairs of high heels in the past 12 months. Posted about 2 of them. It would be nice to see what other members are wearing. I sometimes think I,m talking to myself on here.
Shyheels
Generally that is the case. It would be nice if this forum could liven up. I typically wear boots - I've never been into shoes of any sort and have pretty much lived in hiking boots ever since university days, many years ago. I always danced knee boots but never dared take the step until a few years ago. I like them both with and without heels, although most of my knee and OTK boots are flat-to-low-heeled. I wear them out and about all winter. Love 'em!

Puffer
But surely some members can make a positive contribution rather than just sit back waiting for someone else to do so? I have contributed in the past but the seemingly minimal feedback (good, bad or indifferent) to my latter efforts did not encourage further significant investment of my time. That, however, should not be seen as a valid deterrent to others with a story to tell or an observation or adventure to report ... OVER TO YOU! Just recently had a health issue/scare that caused some swelling in my feet and legs. As a result, I couldn't get my any of my heeled boots on, even without socks. The health issue was addressed, and with medication, the swelling has gone down considerably. But not guite enough for the boots to fit properly. It's looking like the swelling will be completely gone soon. But the whole situation has me humbled. It did make me seriously consider giving up my boots obsession for good. Sane here. Mind you, not much response on HH Place either. That forum is a shadow of what it was some 10+ years ago. Where have the decent committed members all gone to? That must be worrying - although we don't know your age and general situation. Were you able to wear 'ordinary' (flat/boring) shoes during the period of swelling? 2 hours ago, euchrid said: Sane here. Mind you, not much response on HH Place either. HHP appears to have lost a number of stalwarts who seemingly fell foul of 'management'. But there are also a number of extremists whose activity perhaps puts others off as it is often difficult to identify comfortably with what they say and (allegedly) do. I just had to adjust the laces a bit. All of my boots were tight-fitting to begin with, so there was no margin for error. Sane - are you sure?? I’d be happy to contribute if there was any prospect of anyone responding in the same month that I post... Yes, HHP has its fruitcakes but in the main is a pretty nice forum. Nowhere near as active - not by a million miles - as the cycling forum to which I contribute but lively enough that one gets a sense of community with the small but active groups of regulars. Hopefully we can kickstart something like that here. Edited January 17, 2020 by Shyheels

Sounds unpleasant, but there’d be no point in giving up your boots. If the swelling had not abated would you be planning to go barefoot the rest of your life? It might have meant buying new boots, in larger, wider sizes - an expensive hassle - but you’d have had to buy new footwear anyway. Thankfully you appear to have dodge that bullet. I actually have been considering going the "made to measure" route with new boots. There are few shops out there who do it. It costs a little more, but it seems worth it to have boots that fit comfortably.

You might consider Miguel Jones in Mexico: http://www.custom-boots.net/ His made-to-measure boots are reasonably-priced; I have one pair (see below) and am pleased with their fit and quality. - pic here: Edited January 19, 2020 by Puffer

My boots are from Jean Gaborit - a small French firm that specialises in tall boots (equestrian, field, fashion, vintage, you name it) They are more expensive, to be sure, but the leather and workmanship is top-notch, the fit is superb (they make more than a dozen measurements of your feet, calves and ankles) and everything is hand made at their workshop in France. You can specify the leather, colour, height - right down to the centimetre. I would much rather have a single pair of lovely boots that will last a lifetime and fit perfectly than a dozen indifferent pairs. They are well worth a look. Shyheels
I’m a big fan. I’ve got some suede boots from them and the quality of the suede is amazing. Really thick and luxurious. Definitely worth the money.
ronc
Not sure why this site and HHPlace are losing steam. I think in part it is due to so many there being lovers of the extreme, though HHPlace still has several guys that wear reasonable heels, But it does make me wonder where all the guys went. I doubt they stopped wearing heels, so why did they quit posting their trials and tribulations. I admit there is not a ton of input that holds my interest anymore, but there is no where else to go to find those with similar interests, so I'm not going anywhere.
Puffer
As far as HHP is concerned, I think you are right about the seemingly growing trend towards extreme styles and conduct. That has perhaps alienated the large body of members who do not (or cannot) share that interest. A secondary reason is the apparent 'resignation' (or 'removal') in the last couple of years of several long-term and moderate members who in some way have either upset the apple cart (allegedly) or been upset by it, and whose contributions were invariably both valid and appreciated. This board, quiet though it has become, appears to have mostly members of a more 'reasonable' type - with a few exceptions who have likely deserted for that reason. Perhaps existing members don't consider their interest and activity sufficiently exciting to merit mention here, or perhaps they just want to take without giving. But unless they start contributing, we shall remain in a rut. And any contribution does deserve some sort of response, even a negative one if genuine.
