  1. From Dolce Vita and their DV8 range ...... Direct link to >> web site << for this, and other ghastly styles ......
  2. This is good news for us too. Without knowing any detail, it's hard to comment specifically, or offer experience that's pertinent to getting over that 'issue'. But as a general remark, my experience that accepting 'what we are', (which might have nothing to do with wearing heels), and where we are in the world, can bring great relief. Obviously bad experiences from our past, are something that can carry mental and emotional scars that sadly some can never get past. Possibly the worst example of this, would be a parent who loses a young child to illness. Had it happened to me, I'm sure it would have been a heart-break I could never get past...... 'Square peg in round hole' syndrome, is something that may have affected many here as they grew up and possibly struggled to find their way in the world. Growing up is a hard journey for everyone, but being pulled wayward by an interest (or desire) outside the general route could only make that the journey even more difficult. I have personal experience of a girl who befriended Mrs Freddy some 5 or 6 years ago, who failed to complete that journey. I'm not sure any of us have better lives, by hiding our real self from the rest of the world. I suppose we often have to, and having no choice can be a simpler one than worrying about making the wrong choice. (As I've mentioned before, anxiety is very wearing.) In the great scheme of things I've had it good. When I used to dress up regularly, meaning 3 or 4 times a year, I did get to share my interest (eventually) with a small group of friends. We (girlfriend and myself) even made a late night visit to a couple while I was dressed up. But my interest was far from a full time, and the other 99% of my time was me in 'regular' mode. Put another way, I got to have my cake and eat it. I've been very very lucky. Others have a heavier burden, and that may well be the case here. I hope you find a path to where you want to be, with those you want to be with. ....
  3. Looks like I sold the Renzi boots I'd acquired that were too large for me. On balance, an Italian 42 is a very large EU42 verging on an actual EU43 ..... ? As a reminder ...... Lost a little bit of money, but not as much as I might have if I had worn them and then tried to sell them on. Sadly, even with socks (yeuk) they were too big for me. Not that I could walk in them, as they had a 6 inch heel, that felt like a 6 inch heel! "The heel is too high" said I. "I didn't think that was possible?" replied Mrs Freddy. As I reminded her, if I can't wear them out, they have to go. And I definitely can't walk at all convincingly is a 6 inch heel..... Sold some other bits though, including a pair of jeans I'd been trying to sell for some time. Practically gave them away, though not quite. Things are getting hard here in UK PLC. And are expected to get much, much, harder. Still, costing me nothing if I don't sell ...... ...
  4. I would not be surprised to find many more feel the same way. I have heard about a fella who felt really bad about his interest, and got himself into quite a state over it. Like you, discovering his interest was more widespread than he could have hoped, produced a great deal of relief. Not sure being different or an individual ["odd one out"], is so bad? In many forms of art, sport, and business, running from the herd is what helps make you successful. We are what we are. Best enjoy it.
  5. Finally got to drill some holes in concrete with the new kit........ Was like drilling into wood ........ 6 full depth holes in about 10 minutes. Was a revelation.
  6. And ....... from Jeffrey Campbell at Office. >> clicky << Thumbnail sized image:
  7. Listed another couple of pairs of boots over the weekend on that well known auction site. Added them to the two unsold pairs I'm struggling to sell, and a couple of other bits I'm trying to move on. Listed some of the excess from the (womens) jeans and trouser collection too.... Taking pictures takes time. Editing them (cropping, resizing) takes time. Completing the listing procedure, being creative with the descriptions for example and editing out any errors, takes time. But once it's done, it's done. I'm not very optimistic .... Sales are slowing, and I don't necessarily mean just mine. Items I have watched, like shoes, don't seem to be selling as quickly as they were even two months ago. Some consideration has to be given to it being the end of the boot wearing season, with Spring officially arriving in just over a week. But most of the UK has seen sight of snow over the weekend, and most of us experiencing sub zero temperatures too. On the up-side, there's very little left I should sell on. Looking at the size of the residual collection, I'm sure there must be more styles to go. Fortunately, Mrs Freddy isn't in charge of this project. ....
  8. Well ........ Epilogue II to that story ...... Seems my buyer also bid on a 'worn once' pair in brown, a day or two after she bid on the pair I had listed. The used pair were more than a tenner cheaper, but the same size. Possibly she didn't want two pairs, and wanted to 'back' the more expensive ones?. The brass (cheek) of some folk!
  9. Saw these a while back ........ Thought I might have to search through various Design Centres for them, expecting to find them as an exhibit? Imagine how surprised I was to find them in high street shoe shops? !! Julian Hakes Mojito shoe, at Schuh. Fav' colour (red) seen >> here << Video available >> here << Luckily, no UK8 in the two colour combinations I like.
  10. Excellent report. Very entertaining, and enlightening. I hope there are further episodes!
  11. You might have your wish ...... Looks like gender is included? Will be interesting to see if they publish. Might be a case of unlawful sexual discrimination if they don't, though their T+C's probably allow them to edit out that if they choose to.
  12. Can't see/tell which review is yours. P.S. Just noticed your remark on the other thread indicating there's a 48 hour delay in publishing. Will check again later.
  13. Your assessment is on the money. Especially with fuel the price it is..... It was a 15 year old itch that finally got scratched. That said, it was a day out and it was - apart from the distance travelled - a good day out. With birthday spending money in my pocket, it would have been even better if I had of been tempted by something I saw. I'm not big on platforms myself. That said, some can have attractive shapes that allow a ridiculously high heel. The black courts from Primarnie, much to my surprise, fall into that group - for me anyway. It still wasn't attractive enough for me to spend £10 on them though .... If you've a taste for wedges, you may need to keep a sharp eye out for the pictures I'd hoped to have taken by now, of some I bought around 6 weeks ago. Got 4 pairs in 2 styles to add to the Shoe Critique forum. ......
  14. So, back to 20th September 2012. [Part 2a] This looked like a promising start to the day. Wide variety of shoes and boots, including some knee high boots they only had in a UK7 which didn't fit, sadly. And for some inexplicable reason I didn't photograph .... What was also interesting, was the age range trying on heels. Not just 20 something year olds, but some slightly older women too. We progressed around the Mall, and spent several more hours walking and browsing. I was a little disappointed, there seemed to be very few stores I wouldn't see in Malls 130 miles closer to home. It was far from a bad day though, and if I had a bucket list, this was one line crossed off as "done". And one I had patiently waited a loooooong time to get around to. There were more shoppers and staff we saw in heels too, though not so many it would warrant another visit. It is a great venue though, and anyone living with a 50-60 miles radius, visiting would be a simple/easy decision to make. And not a bad place to be wearing heels either. I must have been noticed wearing heels, but I can't recall anyone looking. Having walked the entire Mall, we had expected to eat before we left. Tired and thirsty, we decided not to eat and have me drive for what could be for 3 hours on a sleep inducing belly-full of food. Mrs Freddy was keen to get away (knowing she could nap in the car), so we left just after 8pm. Fortunately the drive home seemed quicker than expected, as there's significantly less traffic on the M1 during the evening. The snacks we'd taken with us, and drink we'd bought before leaving Meadowhall, got us home without hunger pains. Looking back, a great adventure. One not to be missed, but not repeated. ..........
  15. So, back to 20th September 2012. [Part 2] The final leg of the journey North seemed to take longer than expected. We arrived around 3.30pm but we were expecting a long day from the outset. I had arrived in Sheffield, still wearing my HD boots, but wanted this 'special' visit to have me in some special heels to mark the occasion. I'd taken a couple of pairs with me, but I no idea which of the two pairs to wear. While deciding, we spotted a shopper in heels leaving: (Not a great image, as the light wasn't very good in the covered car park.) The shopper looked well-to-do so we decided the customer base might be upmarket. I relaxed slightly about wearing a heeled boot, and changed my usual footwear for some 'vintage' Faith block heels, I'm pretty sure I'd only worn out once before. [saving them for just such an occasion.] Once I changed, we walked some distance to the Mall in very bright daylight past a good number of people of a mixed age range. By the time we got inside, it was obvious schools were out, as were many other shoppers. Here's a link to a short video showing the venue and some shopper there. >> << Bit shaky and the focussing system hunts a little too. I was trying to be careful not to draw too much attention, and maybe I was overly careful at the cost of the quality..... Having decided we were in a slightly 'upmarket' venue, we soon realised we might not be. Sure the place was/is clean, tidy and bright, but the shops mainly catered for the average shopper, if such a thing exists. Almost as soon as we walked into the place, I spotted a large Primarnie (a shop Mrs Freddy never wants to visit), and we went in. They had a huge shoe selection, and I took the following photo's while we were inside. £10 and in my size ..... "tempted".
  16. So, back to 20th September 2012. [Part 1] Having failed to get to Meadow Hall yesterday, we were determined to get there today. Meadow Hall wasn't the only place North of where I live that I hadn't visited for some time, and that I wanted to revisit. A friend had taken me to what he described as a shoe warehouse in Coventry. The store was/is called United Footwear, and when I visited previously, I would have preferred to have tried just about every style I saw. Most of them had heels, many of them were thigh high boots. In many respects, the shoe styles were those favoured by Asian girls (who seem to love high heeled 'sparkly'/girlie shoes) or were a style typically thought to be worn by strippers. [PVC thigh length boots with very high heels and thick platforms.] It was a huge place, full of 'goodies'. I expected to return within weeks, but it had taken around 12 years. The two-stop journey planned, we would first visit U.F. in Coventry, before returning to the M1 and our journey further North. We set off hours earlier than we had the previous day (though still not as early as some might have. ) Ho-hum..... A little more than an hours drive later we arrived, to find the place was as large as I remembered it. Close to the size of a football pitch? I parked, and we hurried inside. What a disappointment! Although only a tad over 5 months ago, I can't remember much about what was inside, but I can remember what wasn't ...... Any footwear of note! While there, I got a phone call from a friend, and while it wasn't a short call, we'd left before the call was over. I had seen products this company was advertising on an auction site, and had expected to see much of what they advertised 'in-store'. Nope! I was wearing my H.D. (wear everywhere) boots, and they were possibly the most stylish shoes in the gaff (while I was there). The one style I did see that might have tempted me, were of such poor quality I wouldn't have paid money to own them. Circa £15..... All plastic and smelt nasty. We left disappointingly quickly. I was obviously 12 years too late. Leaving Coventry, we travelled Northward, going across country to pick up the M1. Lunchtime was approaching so we stopped at a service station. Thank goodness we did! Got the best images of the whole day (it turned out). Still image: Very short Very short Very short I would have stayed longer, but after using the toilets and grabbing a coffee, we had to get back to our main journey to Sheffield. ..........
  17. Cool! >> demo << Done anything with heels? P.S. I'm liking your avatar.
  18. You have to be spending waaaaaay too much time on You Tube, to be able to make that remark. (I now know thanks to Google.)
  19. Great report. While I'm sure it wasn't all that pleasant at the time, it's a great insight into how people respond to unexpected circumstances. Not just by them, but from you too. A sincere thank you for sharing. I don't know if it's too early to be drawing any sort of conclusion from the stories so far, but two things seem common to all. Firstly, and inquisitive nature. "What's this, what does it do, what does it feel like?" Secondly, a pleasant experience with women's heeled shoes at a fairly young (and impressionable) age? I do know, or believe I know of an exception, and that might be Heelman500. If I remember correctly, he saw a buddy "dressed up", and had the suggestion made he might like to try on the dressees heels - which he did then try. Liking the experience, he got into heels. But that is (if I have remembered it correctly) the only instance I'm aware of, where someone got interested in heels as an adult, rather than as a child? Other than that, it would seem to coincide with childhood experience? I have the same situation with "Classical" music. Compositions we used to listen to walking into Assembly at my infants and junior schools, are the ones I can bare to listen to now, as an adult. Everything else is crap (to my ear ). .....
  20. Hello and welcome. I'm sure you've something to offer, so please feel free to join in. As a Charlie Chaplin fan I'm sure the comment about a "part-time blender" user is a comical remark? But it's lost on (idiot) me! We have very little use for blenders over here, until you get so old you can't chew your food so need it turned into soup - with a blender?
