  1. Fortunately we're flying with Virgin although BA and AA also offer seats on the same plane. Things seem to be resolved now anyway, but I feel very sorry for the thousands of people whose holidays were messed up, particularly those having to try to occupy bored kids. I've told my wife I'm wearing the wedge sandals. Our next door neighbour is kindly taking us to the local station from where we can get a train to the airport. She's seen my heels before anyway so it won't be a surprise for her. I'm not sure when I'll next be able to log in but I'll let you know how I get on through Security in heels!

  2. WordPerfect! I was brought up on 5.1, and a thoroughly good program it was. I still use WP4W from choice. I need to use Word for business but still hate the program.

So now we're getting stuff ready to pack, and I'll have to wait and see how much protest I get to my heels. I've been wearing my new sandals for shopping etc., including a visit to Halfords. I'm sure they've been noticed but again no comments from anyone. Wearing them for our flight will make all the difference between backache and no backache, with all the standing around at the airport.

  3. We'll be heading north in a camper van so won't see much of Florida! You wouldn't believe how much cheaper it was to fly into Orlando, with a direct flight, than to other airports, for most of which there was at least one change. When we saw the price, we double-checked it was for two tickets, not one! I think my wife's resigned herself to my new sandals, especially when I made it plain I was happy to wear them anywhere locally, and promptly went shopping in them.

  4. I definitely want to get out in my new wedge sandals now it's warmed up. I had a short foray in them last week, driving to pick up a takeaway, but must try them seriously with light trousers before wearing them for the flight next week. While I'm becoming less and less worried about the heels showing, I want to make sure how they will behave so far as the trouser bottoms tucking under my heels goes. Showing off a four inch slim heel is OK in small doses, but I don't want it happening all the time!

  5. Thank you for doing all our worrying for us, Freddy. ;-)

I admit I have bad posture, but even when I try to stand straight with shoulders back etc my back aches - probably more so for trying to do it and then sagging when I forget! Heels 3.5 inches + realign everything beautifully, and I can stand and walk all day with no pain, and of course the bonus is that lovely feeling of being in heels. Oh, I'm not tall - 5'8" and shrinking. I'm actually slightly shorter than my wife, and it's now funny to reverse the height difference as she rarely wears heels these days.

  6. Just got those sandals. REALLY comfortable - I can see myself putting in some miles in them. The heels are narrow but quiet. Just one problem, as with a lot of slingbacks, is that my trouser hems catch under my heel as I walk, so the whole heel of the sandal is exposed! Perhaps I just need to wear shorts and be done... Anyone got a solution apart from attaching elastic to the inside of my trousers and stretching it round the heel?

Story? Ah yes: We were going to New York and at Security I was told that women needed to take high heels off but men didn't need to remove their shoes. (That wording.) The lady member of staff told me that I didn't have to take my heels off 'this time'. I'm absolutely sure she hadn't noticed my concealed heels as they were completely covered by my trousers and are the most 'flat'-looking heeled boots I've ever seen. If my wife hadn't been with me I'd have showed her my boots - she was amazingly jovial for one of her kind and I'm sure she'd have enjoyed the joke. Anyway, I thought discretion was best so I took them off and tiptoed through the arch. I was really glad of them in the airport the other end. We were queuing for over an hour to go through their security and my back would have been killing me after just a few minutes of standing around. No one has ever commented on my heels, let alone ask why I wear them, but I have a true reason apart from just loving them: flat shoes make my back really ache if I'm standing or walking around - heels are an instant cure (if I change) and prevention (if I have them on from the start).

  7. I've been looking for a suitably subtle pair of wedge sandals for the warmer weather. I have several pairs with block heels and a reasonably masculine look (wide straps, no platform etc) but want something less obvious I can wear for travelling, particularly at the airport. We're off to the USA in a couple of weeks, and the weather's likely to be hot. I've just bought these from Ebay but the heels are a bit narrow. They might have to do but I'm worried they might be a bit loud! I'd have to remove them for Security - do I keep a pair of flatter sandals ready to don for that bit, or just tiptoe through?... I did the latter last year when I took off my boots to put on the belt. That was a funny story in itself!
