  1. I guessed that it wouldn’t be to either of your tastes, yet I still posted it knowing that you’d be the only two to respond!

They also have the following styles in larger sizes. Again, I’m not particularly taken with any of them, but encouraging signs and maybe a site to keep an eye on.

  2. I can say this for ASOS, the delivery was quick. They gave an estimated time of arrival as Monday, but they arrived today.

Sadly, it was to the click and collect store that’s close to my work. I figured it would be easier for me to collect on my way home. So, I still won’t be able to get my hands on them until Monday.

  3. I spent some time in the red patents yesterday evening, including about twenty minutes outside on solid ground - it’s only a small patio, so found myself doing mini laps round the garden furniture. There’s also a small strip by the side of the house where I could practise walking in a straight line.

Going back inside, walking across carpet felt comparatively easy, so I’d like to revise my previous statement about them being ‘incredibly hard to walk in’, to ‘possible to walk in with plenty of practise.’

The large sizes do not (yet) seem to be indexed, so have to be sought on the website.

I’ve found the search function to be somewhat unhelpful. The previous styles that we discussed are still available but won’t show up if searching for larger sizes. The boots I have just purchased were showing up when searching for larger sizes yesterday morning, but by the afternoon they weren’t even showing up in a search when I used their product name.

And ASOS has some other interesting footwear at present, inc the 'Penelope' court with a claimed 5" stiletto

This is a very nice style, even with the set back heel. Let’s hope larger sizes are available soon.

I’m glad to say that I knew about the discount code before purchasing, otherwise I would have been a little upset!

  5. The heel looks to be fairly set back, so I’m hoping that they’ll be reasonably easy to walk in at only 4.5”. I wonder if the height increases proportionally - though I doubt it.

I’m still surprised this style of boot has been made available in larger sizes. I’d just been chatting online with an ASOS adviser about another pair of ankle boots that seemed to have been once available in larger sizes, though now out of stock. They finished the chat by asking me if there was anything else they could assist with; I said, yes - more heeled footwear in larger sizes, please!

A little while later, I’m browsing again and there they are!

  6. Well...

Seems ASOS are slowly introducing more heels in larger sizes. I was looking through today and found that this style is now available up to UK13 (and I did chat online with an adviser and they are large sizes).

Maybe I’m just over-excited at finding this style of boot in a larger size, but I want to buy them. Please, somebody talk some sense into me!

  7. So, the red patent heels in the photo do have a stiletto that is placed towards the back of the shoe.

I do agree with you on the aesthetic appeal of the more traditional stiletto, although with a 5” traditional stiletto on a larger shoe, such as my Seduce 420 in a UK12, they don’t look as high as a 5” contemporary vertical heel on a larger sized shoe.

I’m not sure that I’m explaining myself well, but overall I think the red patent “sexy 20” has a better overall look, whereas the heel of the “seduce 420” is more attractive.

  8. There are quite a few blogs with dos and don’ts for cycling in heels. Plenty of them mention the placement of the heel and whether or not it will damage the shoe, but haven’t come across any concerns with catching it on the chain. It’s worth considering, though.

If you do venture out, you’ll have to let us know how you get on.

  9. Has, or does, anyone cycle in heels?

I was thinking about it as an alternative to street walking: The joy of being out in a heel; the excitement of potentially being spotted; but with the ability to speed away from any uncomfortable or unwanted situations.

Even though most discussions on the topic are aimed at women (sadly for obvious reasons), there was one man whose comments at the end of this blog post suggest I’m not the only one who has thought about it. Although, he’s actually done it; not just thought about it.

  10. Aesthetically speaking, my favourite pair are my Pleaser Sexy 20 in red patent.

But they are incredibly hard to walk in, due to the 5"+ vertical heel. So my next favourite pair would be my black leather Pleaser Seduce 420 with 5" heel. They have a classic stiletto heel shape so much easier to walk in. Unfortunately they don't photograph well, so still trying to get a good shot that does them justice!

  11. UK10 seems to be a bit more commonplace, though I feel it will be a while until we regularly find heels in any size larger than that.

Going by TOMS size chart, I should be able to get my (smaller) right foot into a size UK10. But considering I normally buy their footwear in a UK12, I’m not sure how that would be possible.

Did you know that Patrick McNee and Honor Blackman (Steed and Emma Peel from The Avengers) recorded a song called Kinky Boots?

I have heard it before, a very fun song.

Speaking of which, did you ever see the musical Kinky Boots? I did. It was brilliant

I’ve not had a chance. Started watching the film version but never finished it.

  13. Does anyone have any favourite songs that reference high heels?

    Here are two of mine:

Last I Heard by Thom Yorke

Walking in high heels (I woke up with a feeling I just could not take)
Breaking in your high heels (I woke up with a feeling I just could not take)”

    Undrowned by Everything Everything

To close it around til you're scorched and undrowned, they Devour you in tottering heels”

Or, to open it up further, does anyone have any favourite songs they like to dance to in heels?
