Is this place growing/getting busier?

Recommended Posts

Seems to be. Members post something most days.

Lets see if we add positive remarks to this thread and let the other (currently most read) post, sink to the bottom of the page? :-(

As I write, there are 36 'guests', and while some of these might be Yahoo or Google robots (3), most won't be. ;-) which means even occasional viewers are finding something here to read.

Time for some 'glass half full' comments! :(:D

I'd say things are picking up. Most days there are at least 3 or 4 new messages to read, and new members are signing up too. Looks like it's getting towards critical mass ;-)

Well we picked up a couple of spammers last week, if that's any indication ;-)

They were dispatched quite quickly thanks to the eagle-eyes of our members and we have taken steps to ensure that particular bunch won't be back.

One down, 10,000,000 (give or take a few thousand) to go.

sadly that is the truth!!

cant understand that people have nothing else to do besides playing all these spaming games, writing virus!!!;-):-(

am involved in another site, nothing even close to heels, so much time wasted keeping these buggers out, and sometimes even cleaning up their mess!!!

It only takes one or two people following a spammers link to make their millions of crap posts profitable to them. Autoposting software means they spend seconds setting up a post to millions of sites all automatically joined. Shame but it all comes down to the money, and bugger the people who might actually not want to see their nonsense posts and links.

Viruses are a different matter altogether, nobody makes anything off them, like vandalism it just makes no sense as to why people do it. Or are viruses being released by the anti-virus sellers as the conspiracy theories would like us to believe?

Whatever, the fact that the site is getting hit by spam shows that it is getting noticed and that's got to be good in its own right.

Lets keep posting as that keeps the search engines coming back to relist the pages and add to the amount of terms the sight might be found under. Heels For Men can grow only if we work at it together, and it is growing now.

I keep noticing the "Forum members" count ticking upward so people are starting to notice and sign up.

Somebody mentioned elsewhere that this site will probably never be as big as HHplace and that is probably true. Further, I would say it should not even be a goal. H4M is a site for us men (especially those of us who like to wear 'em) while HHplace is a site for everybody. That right there makes this site's audience somewhat smaller than that of HHplace.

It does seem like we guys are more likely than women to talk about heels, though -- in stark contrast to most other things in life! That's got to be one factor leading to the preponderance of men over at HHplace.

I must point out that we do not intend to exclude women from this site -- we welcome their views here too. But I suspect they are not going to have a lot of interest in this site.

I see H4M as being kind of the counterpart to the "for the girls" forum on HHplace -- but without the "no girls allowed" rule.

I'm always worried about 'ring-fencing' the natural/biological interest or growth within a Forum or site like H4M. In a regular social situation, people talk about all manner of things, not just a single subject.

Women in particular don't have the facet in their personality (unless talking about Elvis or Take That) to have a single life interest. For some reason, there's a layer of men that can. In the UK, we call them "anoraks" or "train spotters". They are seldom welcome amongst regular folk, unless invited in to a pub quiz where specialist knowledge earns the team points in a competition. I'd prefer not to be labelled in such a way. I have many interests besides wearing heels. Mountain biking, for example.

One of the busiest specialist Forums I'm a member of, have a "Non-(special-interest) Forum" where just about anything can be discussed. Anything you would consider 'proper' in a Church that is, and is Moderated to be Child-Friendly too. The Forum is busy, and any problem gets a solution in minutes, often by a number of qualified people. The underlying vein of the site is the specialist interest of course, but there is the chance for general chit-chat too.

I'm concerned that anyone looking to join and/or contribute to the Forum might (a) expect they must only have a single interest to join or (B) relinquish any other interest to be a member of value?

Further, I've read somewhere in the "What Forums would you like?" thread (I think), that some of the requested Forums are already 'covered' in HHplace? On a personal level, that's no use to me, because I'm not allowed there. On a general level, it handicaps natural (progressive) interest in this site, because doors are closed that would otherwise be opened. The site is left handicapped and incapable of competing for the same interest.

Imagine a scenario....

The two sites are EXACTLY replicated. One is used by men wearing heels, with no other HH interest. [so no TV/TS involvement, just men being manly amongst the general public.] Those wanting anything else, use the HHplace site.

I would imagine the weight of traffic would shift significantly?

With the ramping up of membership, with the hoped arrival of further contributors, I'm sure this place will rival HHplace in time anyway. :-(

I need to spend a day taking pictures of my shoes and boots. The site will become a Reference for High Heels .... ;-) Especially if I include Mrs Freddy's. :(

What herself brought home tonight >> click << for example ... :D

Mrs Freddys new acquisition looks very nice. Hope you get around to showing us some of your collection soon. Also hoping you won't be the only one showing your shoes off in here, that should spark some conversation when the pics start appearing though.

I need to spend a day taking pictures of my shoes and boots

need to do like wise, however need to find a good back round to help the shoes stick out, including one for my avatar!!

further will ask the wife if she will sign up here, one for numbers and contribution, and secondly, to try and help in case a member needs helps with explaining to his wife the heels, it sometimes only takes a simple explanation from another lady to help things go smoothly at home!!!

;-)

I'm planning to (again) use a plain white paper sheet for a background. Trouble with white of course, is that the brightness of it will encourage the camera's light meter to make the image darker.

I've done some photo's already, intending to put some of my Evilbay failures back on sale there. [sizing problems, typically.] Wasn't a very quick operation, I can tell you.

For example: >> Diesel shoes I stupidly returned << [Photo taken with +2 stops exposure.]

Nice picture though eh? They went back because the size 8 fell off my feet. How much do heel grips cost? [Duh!]

Yeah but heel grips ?? Better to have the right size and fit surely?

Looks like the extra topics in Heelbucks Cafe are alive and kicking..

Yeah, heel grips would be a VERY last resort.

Size 8 should have been the right size, and they fitted quite well if I didn't have anything else on my feet. But wearing hose was a must. I won't usually have naked feet in shoes unless the shoes can be washed in a sink sometime later, and wearing hose meant my feet were made slightly too small which then allowed my heel to slip out of the shoe.

They were fairly expensive compared to the styles I normally buy, even though they were in the sales. At the time, there was no way I could justify that kind of expense for shoes I would only ever look at.

The same shoes have been on Evilbay a couple of times recently, with only a little wear to the soles. Not sold to me or anyone else yet ....

Decision decisions ....

I noticed recently the Member list seemed to be cut? Maybe some spammers got culled ..... ;)

The list is growing though. Sadly, the list of posters isn't.... :-(

C'mon boys .... show us your shoes? How much and from where? :-)

Membership now up to 189 (at time of writing).

I'm REALLY pleased at the growing number, but d'you know what, I can't for the life of me understand why people join and then don't post? :-)

What could any new member say, that wouldn't be of interest? ;) :-(

I'm inclined to agree with the remarks made elsewhere. The thread asking "What new forums?" has replies with seemingly no action ..... ?

I too have found it hard to decide where to post sometimes, so pretty much keep to the chit-chat forum.

I've got some shoes and boots to sell. I'd like to put them up here before they go on sale elsewhere if they remain unsold, but where should I offer them? I'm not expecting to be able to sell them here, but I'd still like to offer 'first-refusal' to H4M members anyway. And unlike selling to complete strangers on the well known auction site, I would be happy to take returns from fellow members. :-)

I would like to see more on here. It would be helpful if the "notables" from HHP would post here too, perhaps we should assk them too. Mind you, since HHP cleaned itself up (thankfully), this board may be a duplication to some extent.

Perhaps a header devoted to experiences would be good. I can post some of those, but as I don't push the envelope as far as stilettos as a man, and as far as I can judge I don't ever get reactioons from wearing 3"ish cuban or block heels, they seem to be a total non-event to me and probably to everyone else too. After all when you are used to wearing this type of footwear almost daily in normal life, what's to get excited about.

I do want to incorporate my avatar shoes into other looks. Originally purchased for my "black tie" outfit as patent goes well with that look, perhaps I may try these with a nice pair of burgundy moleskins and so on. When the weather cools down, I'll do a pic or two and post in the outfit critique for comment.

Simon.

I must point out that HHplace did not "clean itself up". It was cleaned up as a direct result of effort on the part of its staff. We came to a realization that the site had strayed from its original purpose and branched out into areas where much of the membership was not comfortable. Primarily it was intended to be a fashion site and it is closer to that now. The process is probably not done yet either.

As far as inviting HHplace members here, we have included a link to Heels4Men as a sub-forum, right under the "For the Guys" header.

I'm not big on stiletto's in public either. I do wear them, but they're evening use only. [Read: Worn in darkness, while in public.]

Any 'story' (experience) written up, should interest other men heelers. Doesn't need to be ground breaking adventures either. Detail of what makes our behaviour appear normal/regular is gonna be useful to anyone thinking of going out for the first time. :-) I can you all, Thighbootguy is largely responsible for me seeing the wearing of heels out in the real world, as a fairly realistic opportunity. Many of his reports involve simple visits to local stores.... Simple stuff, but normal stuff .... :-(

JMC, my apologies for not acknowledging the hard work you and the other HHP moderators have put in, in order to change the emphasis of the HHP, turn it back toward the original concept and so on. A serious oversight on my behalf and I hope you will accept my apologies.

Simon.

No problem, H4MROK. Actually I cannot take much credit for the cleanup, other members of the staff put the majority of the effort into it. I extend your comments to them.

I think you are right, a lot of HHplacer's (especially the guys) would find reasons to participate here. The ladies have their own forum and we can consider this to be the guys lounge or club or whatever.

Still only a half-dozen members posting regularly though ..... :-)

Judging from activity on the big site, that's to be expected. A lot of people register, post a handful of times, and then lose interest. Some of them check in from time to time and just read but don't post.

After a bit of a lull, membership has started growing again.

What's more interesting, is the 'Most Users Ever Online' was increased again today (Tuesday).

Folk (members) may not be contributing, but at least people are coming here for a read!

Another milestone tonight ... 300 members....

For some reason this'll doubtless reduce, before it climbs again, but the number is there.

Also tonight, 'most users' logged on has gone up. Again.

Of course some of this number [75] will be seach engines looking for keywords for links, but the number of interested real people looking at the site has grown....

We've got another couple of members adding posts, but the site could do with more .....
